A stone under the seat stopped this MINI passing its WoF

This R56 MINI came in for a WoF and service with a driver’s seat that would not move forwards or backwards. The inspection picked up a few ordinary items, including bulbs, but the stuck seat needed a closer look.

Finding what was holding it up

There was no obvious sign of the cause with the seat in place. We removed the seat from its rails so we could inspect the release mechanism properly.

Underneath it was a stone covered in hair, wedged under the release mechanism. That small obstruction was stopping the seat from sliding along its rails.

Seat moving again

We freed the obstruction and refitted the seat. With the seat moving again and the other WoF items dealt with, the MINI passed its warrant. Happy days.

It was an unusual find, and a good example of why the first step is to find out what is actually stopping something from working.

Got an awkward fault to sort out

If something on your car is sticking, making a noise or not working as it should, tell us what you have noticed when you book. We can arrange a check and explain what we find.

Speedwell Tune and Service Centre is in Frankton, Hamilton. Read about our fault-finding work or request a booking.
