If you're about to hand over money for a used car in Hamilton, whether it's from a dealer on Te Rapa Road or a private seller you found on Trade Me, a pre-purchase inspection is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy. For a couple of hundred dollars, you find out whether the car is genuinely sound or whether it's about to cost you thousands in repairs a month after you drive it away. A proper inspection starts with a full underbody check on a hoist, not a five-minute look with a torch. We're checking for rust (especially around sills, chassis rails, and suspension mounting points, which matters more in older Hamilton-registered cars), fluid leaks from the engine, gearbox, and differential, and the condition of the exhaust, brake lines, and suspension bushes.
